Charlotte is the worst ACC tournament host. Evar.posted Mar 13 2008
The glory and beauty that is the ACC Men’s Basketball tournament unfortunately loses a little shine this year because it’s hosted in Charlotte. The thousands of back-seat Carolina fans living in Charlotte that will fill the arena in their powder blue polo shirts and sweaters, sipping their Tab colas (or insert another Carolina joke here) and asking each other “what time does Tyler’s ‘will’ play?”
The Charlotte Observer hacks opining about ACC basketball as if they knew what good basketball was supposed to look like. (The Charlotte Observer’s golf writer wants the ACC tournament to end early on a Saturday. *Sigh*) Charlotte’s incapable of putting people in the stands who care about the tournament. I just don’t get it. The first few games are usually the most exciting, especially since a lot of teams are playing for their NCAA lives. Yet the Florida State/Wake Forest game is empty! That doesn’t happen in Greensboro. Thanks for bringing us down, Charlotte. You can have your crappy Bobcats, your NASCAR and your insanely high murder rates. We’ll keep ACC basketball.

WOW–such hatred of the Charlotte-metrolina area!!! As an area resident and also a daily subscriber to the Charlotte Observer, I take offense at your analysis. I read the “golf columnist”’s article, and he simply stated that the tournament should be AS IT WAS IN THE OLD DAYS, ending on Saturday. This was nothing new, invented by him. Also, Coach K, Roy Williams and Maryland’s coach Gary Williams were interviewed for the article, agreeing to returning to an end on Saturday. Are you mad because they didn’t quote Sidney????
I will agree that the BOBcats arena is a terrible venue because it has limited seats compared to Greensboro. The Observer has actually mentioned the limited seating for fans in the paper this week as compared to other venues. I think we realize that Charlotte cannot compete and most likely will not host for many more years. It all comes down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
There really are ACC fans in other areas of the state besides the Triangle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can’t get tickets when it’s in Greensboro, either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its funny how the Charlotte “I have a hard on for UNC” Observer gets quotes from K and Gary Williams. You know it really wanted to ask Roy but I’ll bet he was ok with a Sunday game.
Basically anywhere you go in North Carolina is gonna be filled with UNC fans but the farther west you go the higher percentage you’re gonna find….seriously, west of Greensboro and I’d bet that 90% of the people are UNC fans and that includes Winston-Salem where Wake resides…
I appreciate good UNC fans like the blizzog and so forth but I’ve known waaaaaay too many people pull for UNC because the went there but when you ask they say well, I went to UNC-G and its part of the UNC system. I then say, “Well, State is part of the UNC system and they respond with well UNC-G has UNC in it.” Douchebags….
sorry, I’m bitter right now….
I no longer will be reading your blog.
@my sister - That columnist was fishing for comments from the coaches to support his terrible editorial. Ending the tournament a day early would mean removing teams from play, which would be even more disastrous than playing it in Charlotte.
Why don’t you come down here to GODS country and talk your girly man Smack! PUNK.
Why not hold the ACC tournament in Tully Gym in Tallahassee every year. It holds 4,000 and there are usually about 3,500 seats available for visiting fans. We do ACC basketball right. We watch Bass Fishing instead.
