Not a good sign for Amazon’s MP3 store

I’m trying to download the new Foo Fighters album (legally), so I decided to check out Amazon’s new MP3 store.

Like iTunes, it kind of smacks you in the face when you first look at it. Way too much stuff to sort though.

So I go to the trusty “search” feature and type in “Foo Fighters”, fully expecting to have their new album pop up with big blinking lights in front of me so I can lay down some coin to buy it.

Instead, I get this:

It's all karaoke versions!

Of the top 24 songs listed, none of them are actually performed by Foo Fighters. And what’s even more awesome is how it’s sorted by “Relevance”.

As tempted as I am to pick up those sweet tracks from “Vitamin String Quartet”, I guess I’ll poke around iTunes Plus to see if I can get it there.

Stanford over #1 USC is not the greatest upset ever

Not even close.

Appalachian State, a Div 1-AA (or whatever want to call it), goes into The Big House, and defeats a #5 Michigan team. That’s unreal.

Stanford beats #1 USC. That’s old hat. And it’s no where near as close an upset as ASU over Michigan this year.

Stanford is a solid 1-A team. They have 9 Pac 10 championships — one as recently as 1999. They shouldn’t be a terrible team. They are, but they shouldn’t be.

Meanwhile, Appalachian State is a solid 1-AA team. Yes, they’ve won back-to-back championships. But they’re still decidedly 1-AA. They lost to NC State just last year. And NC State will be lucky to win 1 game this year!

The sad thing is, this Stanford hype is coming from the Pac 10 honks. I actually heard a guy on the radio arguing that the Stanford win proves the Pac 10 is the best conference because the worst team in the league can beat the #1 team in the country.

(record skips)

So let it rest. Stanford is a bad team, yes. And they beat a #1, yes. They were a elevendy billion point underdog. Fine.

But ASU is a small, D1-AA school that beat one of the most storied football programs in history in their house. That’s an upset.

Sorry, trees. Not even close.

Update: One thing I forgot to mention — the pollsters apparently agree with me too. USC was #1 and fell to #10, while Michigan was #5 and dropped completely out the polls. ‘Nuff said.
