Self-mixed MP3s

why can’t digital music be sold in a format that’s “mixable”? I remember reading about the Nine Inch Nails guy releasing a song for Garageband so peeps could remix it, but this is slightly different.

What I want is a file format that carries each track — unmixed. Then I want a “mix” file, say in XML, that contains the artist’s preferred mix of the tracks. But then I want to be able to tweak it and mix my own version.

Most (good) artists would probably freak at the idea of a “lay-mixer” like me being able to mess with their track, but how cool would that be?

It wouldn’t be very hard — it actually would remove a step from production — and with each track separated and more easily “fiddled with”, it might lead to better audio compression technology.

if I could sing like John Fogerty, I swear I would use it for good, and not for evil.

Netflixing

anyone got anything to say about Netflix ?

My wife and I are starting to watch more movies now that the kids are sleeping on their own (sort of)… so we’ve been thinking about joining Netflix.

I read that Netflix is sending current subscribers a “friends and family” 1-month free trial, so if any of my friends and family want to hook me up, holla.

I still think squeezable peanut butter is a killer idea. Maybe I’ll sketch up a diagram. Hmmmm….
